A man in his 70s was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Tarzana today after he allegedly armed himself with a knife and a long gun and threatened to kill a woman and himself, police said.
Officers were first called around 5:10 p.m. to a home in the 5200 block of Mecca Avenue just south of Ventura Boulevard to investigate a man in his 70s who was armed with a knife and threatening to kill himself and a woman, said Los Angeles police Detective Gus Villanueva.
About 10 minutes later, police received additional information that the man was armed with a shotgun, Villanueva said.
The man was wounded in an officer-involved shooting around 5:35 p.m. and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Villanueva said, adding that the suspect's condition was unavailable.
There were no immediate reports of injuries to officers, he said.
Video from the scene showed the man on the ground with officers standing nearby. After the man was taken from the scene, a shotgun or rifle could be seen in the grass outside a house.--City News Service
