A man fatally shot a woman, critically wounded another, then killed himself today at a Valley Village apartment building, police said.

Police were sent to an apartment building in the 12400 block of Weddington Street about 10:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting, Los Angeles police Officer Rosario Herrera said.

Responding officers may have heard gunshots, causing them to seal off the area before entering the apartment.

The names of the victims were unavailable, but according to broadcast reports, a man shot his wife, then a neighbor woman, before shooting himself to death.

A coroner's spokesman described the alleged shooter as a man in his 60s.

The surviving gunshot victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Jaime Moore said.

A police officer who suffered an unspecified minor injury was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

Police said earlier reports of someone being hit with an ax were unfounded.

"Suspect in custody" but no picture? Hm, what's that tell you? Could our media be more dishonest? And what's ironic is that the very efforts to conceal the facts, proves that the media knows that the overwhelming majority of violent crimes are committed by the very people they are trying to protect.
