Angelenos planning bathroom remodels or minor fixes to their homes can now schedule Saturday visits from city Building and Safety inspectors, starting with this weekend, Mayor Eric Garcetti has announced.

The Building and Safety Department previously only offered inspections Monday to Friday.

Inspectors will be available for Saturday hours to do on-site evaluations of proposed remodeling projects; plumbing, mechanical and electrical repairs; and replacement of fixtures and mechanical equipment.

The change comes at no additional cost to the city, according to mayoral aide Jeff Millman.

Inspectors were asked to volunteer to take one weekday off in order to work on Saturdays, he said.

Garcetti was scheduled tomorrow to officially announce the addition of the Saturday inspection hours at the site of a proposed bathroom remodeling project in a Cheviot Hills home.
