Executive Director and Ratepayer Advocate Announced Tonight

Studio City Neighborhood Council President John Walker sends out letter and said he will explain the process of picking a Ratepayer Advocate tonight as well.

First Meeting of 2012:

I hope that we all had an enjoyable and happy Holiday.

I would like to welcome everyone back - your Board, Chairs and all of our Stakeholders throughout Studio City.

Yes, we do need to hit the ground running - there's a lot going on and it's best to be in front of the race,  rather than trying to catch up!

Let me start with the appointment of our new Chair for the Crime & Safety Committee, .  Richard has been a community activist and an outspoken community member who has worked hard on several of our other committees, has assumed the position of being an Ad-hoc appointment and has been very active at our Board meetings.  Richard sent to me what he would like to accomplish as Chair,  and after reading it and having some lengthy conversations with him,  I realized how lucky we are to have this kind of individual in our community.

Welcome Richard.  I know that we all look forward to being involved and seeing accomplishments from this Committee.

Sadly, I have to pass on the resignation of one of our Renter Board Members, .  Aside from being a friend, Todd has worked as Chair of Transportation, Vice President and served as a Board member to better all of Studio City.  Todd and his family will be relocating outside of Studio City and will no longer be eligible to hold a Board seat.

Thank you Todd for all of your past years of work.  We wish you and your family continued happiness and success.

At our first meeting on January 18th, our Guest Speaker will be    Mr. Garcetti stepped down as President of the City Council so that he could devote time to this race.   Mr Garcetti is a Fourth-generation Angeleno.  He studied urban planning and political science at Columbia University, where he received his B.A. and M.A. in international Relations.  He also studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and the London School of Economics.  All of Mr. Garcetti's bio will soon be on our website:  www.studiocitync.org.

Mr. Garcetti will speak to the important issues regarding Studio City and Los Angeles,  and will be sharing his ideas on how to help get our great City back to work.

Please plan to attend this very important first meeting of the year.   Your voice/vote IS IMPORTANT and the more we know about our candidates, the better equipped we are to make that choice.

I hope to see an over-flow audience on the CBS Lot, Wednesday, January 18th.  Refreshments at 6:30.

Thank you all for your continued support - and tell your friends and neighbors.

Happy New Year.

Respectfully,

John Walker

President, SCNC

ok. have now spent some time navigating the new patch. i hope everyone will give it a chance. it'sRead More growing on me. i think once everyone is more familiar with the new version they'll like it too.

@MikeSzymanski I must admit that I haven't been able to detect a new format. Where is the format?Read More Who designed this? All I can tell is that there is a beautiful shot of trees -- perfect! Under that banner all hell breaks lose and you can't tell what you're looking it. There might be a huge blowup of Mr. Walker or a too big notice of something official-looking -- possibly an agenda. I have not been able to navigate through all the stuff. Lots of white space on either side which gives me impression that we're tailoring a community paper more toward an iphone or smart phone (or a tablet). Maybe I need a GPS to find a good list of contents here. In the meantime, it's not very attractive (exception for the banner trees photo) nor entertaining and not very informative. Scotty Reston, where are you now that we need you?

the picture selected is nice and it well suits the page. it would be nice to see the full pic. tooRead More bad so much of it is blocked from the top portion of the content....any chance of seeing the full picture and starting the content beneath it?

I find this very disconcerting. Mel Randall who is on the Land Use Committee was asked to submit hisRead More name. We assumed qualifications would be checked and then those best suited would be chosen. Two entries of the same name is in itself so bad makes me feel that all of this should be redone.

I was at the meeting last night and saw all I need to see on how our neighborhood council work. TheyRead More had a drawing for the grievance panel. WHAT A SHAM!! They drew 1 guys name twice and rather than stop the proceedings and make sure that the names in the hat were legitimate and no other duplicates exist and redo the drawing, they just drew another name. Now it probably was just a fluke but the appearance of a rigged drawing is there and it taints the whole council and it proceedings. It is very apparent why we need a grievance panel in the first place. When the appearance of corruption exists at the lowest levels of our democratic process it is no wonder that the whole system is collapsing before our eyes. Our neighborhood council should hang their heads in shame!
