Metro Approves Funding Increase for Universal City Footbridge

Transportation officials cite rising bid prices as the main reason for the increase.

The proposed three-corner walkway across Lankershim Boulevard and Universal Hollywood Drive received approval for a $7.5 million cost increase by the Metro Board of Directors, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Costs to construct the pedestrian footbridge, which aims to connect with Metro's Redline Station, grew due to rising construction costs to bid prices, officials said.

City Councilman and board member Paul Krekorian called for landscaping to be done around the walkway.

The Studio City Neighborhood Council has opposed the design and scope of the bridge, citing it does not comply with the community plan.
