Metro Board to Decide on Universal City Pedestrian Footbridge

The Studio City Neighborhood Council and City Councilman Paul Krekorian have questioned the design and scope of the proposal.

The Metro Board of Directors meets Thursday morning to decide on the proposal to build a pedestrian walkway at Universal Studios over Lankershim Boulevard  that will connect the Redline Station.

The cost for the project increased from $19.5 million to $27 million, reports the Los Angeles Daily News, citing rising construction costs to bid prices.

The Studio City Neighborhood Council has opposed the design and scope of the bridge, citing it does not comply with the community plan.

Stakeholder Lisa Sarkin said she does not know whether the $27 million covers the design and funds already spent on planning or if it just consists of the construction. The footbridge should be a tunnel since that's what "was originally promised" and it would be safer, she added.

"It's ugly and convoluted," she added, calling the design a "serpentine."

Sarkin added that City Councilman Paul Krekorian will be at Thursday's Metro board meeting.
