The out of date playground at Moorpark Park at 12601 Moorpark St. is getting replaced, the Studio City Neighborhood Council learned Wednesday night.
Darryl Ford of the Planning, Construction and Maintenance Division provided a rendering of the new play area. The image is attached to this post.
The cost for replacement will be just under $250,000 and he said the department will be using equipment fees to help fund the demolition and installation. It should be completed in the next four to six weeks.
"It's a very quick in and out project," he said.
Ford said the equipment will be "disabled accessible," meaning there will be "some" wheelchair access to the park. The rubbery surface Poured in Place will be installed to the walking area around the playground.
Council members said their own Parks and Recreation Advisory Board should be notified of the work first and foremost, and questioned why restrooms were not considered.
Ford said given the size of Moorpark Park, the department estimates most of its users spent up to an hour there and had not previously considered the costs, impacts and potential needs to install restrooms.
