Studio City Gets Funding for Sidewalk Repairs

The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday earmarked $163,400 for sidewalk repairs along Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City area.

City Councilman Paul Krekorian asked his colleagues to approve the funds for the sidewalk repair projects along Ventura Boulevard, the Valley's major thoroughfare.

One of the repairs will occur around 11533 Ventura Blvd., a well-traveled area dotted with numerous retail shops and eateries, said Krekorian spokesman Jeremy Oberstein.

The funds will not come out of the city's general operating dollars, but from the Ventura-Cahuenga Boulevard Specific Plan Project Impact Assessment trust, a pot of money developers pay into when they do projects in the area.

"Our residents should not have to wade through broken or even non-existent sidewalks in Los Angeles, and I am ready to tackle this issue throughout my district," Krekorian said.

Krekorian's motion also directs the Transportation and Planning departments to identify possible sidewalk repair projects elsewhere in the San Fernando Valley that would qualify for the project impact assessment funds.

Krekorian, who sits on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board, recently worked to get two new traffic signals activated in North Hollywood and is looking into increasing transportation options in the North Hollywood Arts District.
