The Studio City Neighborhood Council is call for a Special Board Meeting for Wednesday night to consider support for Los Angeles's "gentle ban" on medical marijuana dispensaries.
The ordinance is expected to be discussed by all Studio City stakeholders.
The where owners of the businesses and neighbors talked about the pressing issues.
The Studio City area has more marijuana dispensaries than andcombined—at last count 13 of them.
The city's Public Safety Committee, the City Planning Commission and the City Attorney proposed an ordinance that amends City law to prohibit all medical marijuana businesses citywide, but does not ban access to medical marijuana by qualifying patients in need. The ordinance responds to a recent appellate court ruling and the decision of the California Supreme Court to review that ruling. The ban gives the City breathing room to regulate more comprehensively at such time as the high court and the State Legislature clarify the lawful role of Cities.
The idea is presented by SCNC vice president Lisa Sarkin. Special Assistant City Attorney Jane Usher will be available to speak and answer questions.
