Be persistent in obtaining representation

Listen up Actors:) I get calls every day for career advice so we've decided to start a blog. It is my job to deal with a lot of actors AND a lot of casting people, agents, and managers.  Every actor I talk to wants to be on The Big Bang TheoryGrey's AnatomyBreaking BadGame of Thrones and the list goes on.  Well duh! But how can you do it?  There are a number of steps you need to take but you've to get a stellar hardworking manager and/or agent behind you.  I am not talking about WME or CAA. I am talking about a realistic goal. A mid-sized or boutique agency that will BELIEVE in you, take you on when you don't have much in the way of credits and really get you started. Until you are Jennifer Aniston or even Jenna Fischer you need to be a regularly AUDITIONING actor and then you can become a WORKING actor. Remember, you must be persistent in getting your representation. I want to share with you an email I received this morning from the assistant of a great manager that represents name talent and attends our Speed Rating events at Studio Productions.

"Hi Jenny,

I just wanted to touch base with you---we know that this has nothing to do with you or your program, but we just wanted you to know that "said manager" did reach out to several actors regarding meetings after the speed rating and a few never got back to us, and one went as far as setting up a meeting and then never showed up.  Again, I know that you have no control over what the actors decide to do, but we just wanted you to know that we did try to reach out. "

I was utterly shocked when I read the email. Actors you have to be proactive and remember that Hollywood is a business. YOU are a business and no one will run your business for you. No one is going to discover you in your apartment. Now get out there and pound the pavement!

Break a leg:)
