Blog: What Are You Doing About Graffiti In Your Neighborhood?

Take action and clean up your community.

Graffiti is an unfortunate part of urban life for us Angelenos. Just because you see it though, doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. For the past year and a half I’ve been living in Valley Village, I’ve noticed that Graffiti has become an ever increasing problem. Usually when it appears on the 7-Eleven or Laundromat, they do a good job of ridding it. However, people have to the liberty of tagging on light poles, wire boxes, and side-walls as well. In front of my apartment, there is a wire box that was filled with all kinds of graffiti; as a result, it became a real eyesore. There was also another wire box just a block away from me that mimicked the one in front of my apartment.

After a few weeks, I finally got sick of seeing it so I decided to take a trip to the Home Depot in Hollywood. I picked up a can of grey spray paint that only cost me $3.87. I sprayed both of the wire boxes and still had a little left over for later use. I really feel proud of myself because it shows just how much I care about my environment and the neighborhood overall. It doesn’t matter where you live, graffiti shouldn’t be tolerated and it isn’t fair to the stakeholders. So if you see graffiti, don’t wait for the city to take action, do it yourself if you can. You can’t always wait for the government to do it for you. Get out your paint. Get out your shovels. Get out your brooms. Get out your rakes. Take action and clean up your community.
