Laurence School Goes Retro to Celebrate 60th Anniversary and First-Ever Founder's Day

Students, teachers, parents and alumni families paid tribute to school's heritage with a blast from the past, including '50s music and dancing.

It looked like a scene right out of "Happy Days" at Laurence School's first annual Founder's Day celebration Feb. 1.

The festivities, celebrating the independent elementary school's 60th anniversary, paid tribute to founders Marvin and Lynn Jacobson, who are still daily fixtures on campus.

Also present was Wendy Greuel, the Los Angeles City Controller and former council representative for Valley Glen, where Laurence has been located since it started as a two-room schoolhouse in 1953.
