Officials Urge Traffic Safety Near Studio City Schools

Two solutions have been made to the pick up and drop issues at Campbell Hall School on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, City Councilman Paul Krekorian's office reports. Carpenter Community Charter School is another safety issue being addressed.

In the East Valley, several schools have teamed up with public safety and government officials to curb hazardous driving situations.

Jeremy Oberstein, Krekorian's communications director, said they spoke to Campbell's Headmaster Julian Bull last week and since then, school staff has been instructed to be more proactive on the streets in the morning, directing students to park on campus.

Krekorian also asked Los Angeles police to be more mindful of the area and the local LAPD officer added the pick-up and drop-off hours to his regular patrol to ensure public safety, Oberstein said.

Parents and students have settled into a somewhat normal routine in the mornings and afternoons, which has helped reduce impacts from the amount of cars. Oberstein added that a stop light was installed last year at Campbell Hall School to help with the traffic mitigation.

At Carpenter Charter, Oberstein said the principal and booster club are working on getting a regular crossing guard, and a couple other things to smooth out pick-up/drop-off issues there.

In Krekorian's fall 2012 newsletter, he highlighted a multi-agency effort of heightened enforcement happening in the East Valley to encourage more traffic safety near school zones. Schools were chosen based on a repeated history of traffic safety issues.
