No Re-Seeding at Beeman Until Next Year, But Summer Activities Kick Off

The grass will be a casualty of the success of the Studio City Park.

So many groups want to use the park, and it such a popular destination, that despite the need and wish for the recreation department to plant grass at the , it won't happen until next year.

"It was our hope to seed it with grass this year, but there were complaints about it by people who were using it this summer, so it won't be re-seeded until 2013," said Recreation Coordinator Julie Monroy, who spoke at a recent community meeting. "That is a bummer because we hoped to get more grass for our soccer league."

The park activities continue to grow as budgets shrink. There are new summer camps being held at the location and activities for people of all ages.

July 7 to 14 is open enrollment for They have had 42 teams of 11 per team in the program. For soccer they have 27 teams with a total of 297 children.

"That is great for such a small park," Monroy said.

The South Valley Raiders Jr.'s Clinic for groups from 6 to 14 starts Aug. 1 and lasts through November. Sign-up is going on now at www.southvalleyraiders.org.
