Mamie Jackson Moves Up the List for Kidney Replacement

The Studio City activist has some renewed hope.

, a Studio City activist who formed the non-profit , just got renewed hope to getting a kidney transplant for herself. For years, she has been working on education and help for others, but now there is hope she has moved up on the list after a trip to Houston, where she went to the Methodist Medical Center.

She said, "Every transplant center is different and this center will work well for me. I have already been on the wait list for almost four years. The wait list in Houston is about 2  to 2/12 years fro my blood type. That means I should be somewhere near the top of the list in Houston and also I will get points for having high antibody levels (HLA antigens)."

The Studio City-based National Organization for Renal Disease (NORD) recently won an award called Donate Life Hollywood from OneLegacy.  Tenaya Wallace, the event director, calls Mamie "an inspiration."
