Use Water Bottles Instead of Plastic Recyclables

Earth Day festivities may be over, but the whole month of April is Earth Awareness month, and Studio City Patch will continue to have features about the environment for the duration (as well as our weekly )

People have developed different ways to be environmentally friendly, but changing how we consume our water can make an immediate impact. By minimizing bottled water consumption we can reduce environmental footprint and benefit your wallet.  

“I use them a lot when I am running or hiking,” said Liz Holmes a Studio City resident. “I was at this weekend and I only remember seeing non-reusable water bottles.”

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power provides some of the cleanest drinking water in the world, yet barrels of oil are used to produce the bottles for American consumption.  Of these plastic bottles, according to Environmental Protection Agency, only 7 percent of them get recycled. The simple act of using reusable water bottles can reduce bottled water consumption right here at home.

When asked about how reusable bottles will benefit the city, Holmes said, “I think Studio City is a pretty clean place and its residents are typically environmentally friendly, but reusable water bottles will allow for less trash."

Reusable bottles comes in all different sizes and styles to suit different people's needs, and each refill saves you cost of purchasing bottled water, so the bottle quite literally pays you back with each refill.
