Wayne Harropson: The Shakespeare Connection
I wrote this on 7/12/2011 just hours after discovering the book in my attic.
I was at a church single's retreat at Catalina Island September '88.
I brought one book with me: Four Comedies/William Shakespeare.
I read that A.W. Tozer used to study Shakespeare on his knees asking God's guidance to understand the meaning and so I thought I would use my idle time
Surely reading a book on my knees would attract only prime dating candidates.
I got up early and thought I'd get right at this quest and found a picnic table to sit at until female prospects emerged at which time I would take the kneeling position.
Another hapless bachelor was already sitting at the opposite end of this bench and asked what it was I was reading.
After I explained my curiosity for the undecipherable (women included in this fascination) he pointed out that his own genealogical line was that of Shakespeare.
The man, Glen Biggs makes a believable case as the photograph attests. He kindly autographed my book and I abandoned all efforts to read it because the reason for bringing the book in the first place had obviously been fulfilled.
It was just as well because as it turned out, Twelfth Night and Shakespeare was out, Top Gun and Tom Cruise was in, and I still had time to go buy some aviators before any girls saw me.
