<p>Back in the 1920s, these trails were used by firemen on horseback to survey the San Fernando Valley and spot any fires threatening the Studio City homes below.</p> <p>Then, during the Great Depression, the Works Progress Administration built the stone walls and staircases that led to the hiking trails and the 45 acres of sage, pine trees and native California plants.</p> <p>Benches and an occasional water fountain—including ones built for parched pooches—are situated along the trail.</p> <p>The park is home to the Tree People and also encourages dogs, bikes and horses.</p>
