Because of so much fraud when there are big disasters I have felt it necessary to only give money toRead More smaller charities which I have knowledge and am comfortable although sad to have to do it this way.

Another example of someone who doesn't know the community, there are a dozen rescue groups IN STUDIORead More CITY that meet regularly, and past columns have always had local animals found IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. Not hard to find them Matt, just drive around on the weekends along Ventura Blvd. and in the parks.

I am under no misconceptions of what the neighborhood council is Richard, and you are only makingRead More excuses and interjecting rhetoric to steer the conversation away from the topic at hand. It is a nice try but it does not change the fact that your grievance council drawing was flawed. There done topic closed and you folks got to live with the stigma that goes along with that period. Quit making excuses and get on with it and try to do better next time. Now back to the curbs on Colfax. This is still an ongoing disgrace and you on the neighborhood council should join the fight rather continue to debate the issue and side with the councilman. It is amazing to me that even on the elected volunteer level (The lowest level) of our democracy the ones sent to represent the people do nothing that really makes a difference in peoples lives. I would think that what is going on over here would enrage you as much as it does our neighborhood, but you and John Walker want to tout what a great job you are doing and use rhetoric, sophist dialog and flat out double talk about complaints otherwise not being valid. Prove to the people over on Colfax that you really care about unjust and punitive actions taken by the councilman. Then and only then will I start to agree that you deserve to represent us.

Hugh, I watched your Youtube on Colfax curb controversy. It is excellent, and a real eye opener. IRead More wish more people would put so much time and effort into trying to make LA a better place, and I owe you an apology. You ARE a do-er and boy does this City need more people like you. I don't know the details of the red curbs but I tend to feel the City does not need to take all those parking spaces away especially if they had always been parking spaces in the past. Parking fines have gone up 80% over recent years, it is a form of taxation in order to preserve the lavish union pensions that are wrecking our City. It is amazing LA City charges such hefty parking fines but yet they allow our neighbors to completely violate LAMC 56.08 by allowing 4 foot tall weeds and trash and debris on sidewalks. The City laid off most of the enforcement staff and LA is too broke to provide the service of enforcing this law. The Enforcement supervisor advised me that my neighbors are committing a misdemeanor by allowing the sidewalks & parkways to become blighted. They can raise parking fines by 80% but yet they have NO fine for breaking the parkways & sidewalk ordinance. Council File 13-0699 will allow the City to start fining LAMC 56.08 violators just like every other city does. Sorry, I realize this is not exactly on the same subject, but while I have an audience of NC members, I am begging and pleading with you to put "SCNC Supports CF 13-0650" on your next agenda. This is the only way to stop the ugly blight caused by homeowners and business owners who don't sweep their sidewalks and allow trash and weeds to accumulate. LA reduced street sweeping on Open Routes from ev. 4 weeks to ev. 27 weeks so you know the City will not take over cleaning these blighted parkways & sidewalks. Please all Neighborhood councils must put support of CF 13-0650 on your next agenda. japhillips1@yahoo.com http://clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2013/13-0650_cis_7-19-13.pdf

Hey Jo I read the link to the pdf you referenced and I of course would be inclined to support thisRead More code but would also like to point out that just like any codes or laws that the city might impose, it is a mute point if the city is not willing to enforce it. As long as our elected officials like councilman Krekorian use their power and influence to inflicting unfair actions and enforcement on its citizens it is not going to happen. Our cities are run by people who would rather punish their enemies rather do what is right for its people. As long as we also continue to elect even at the volunteer level of the neighborhood councils who will simply nod their heads and affirm whatever these paid officials want, the problem will only get worse. As you have seen with this thread the battle I face right here with not only our neighborhood council acting like they were not aware of the problem on Colfax and then when admitting they are now aware of it, rather than say they would help do something about it they engaged with me a public debate for two weeks, not about fixing the problem but rather make excuses why my complaints about them are wrong. Shameful! Until the citizens themselves get wise and actually elect statesmen to office rather than career blowhards it will not change.
