Hey Dr. Wintemute, I hate to ruin your crusade but Chicago has one of the strictest set of gun lawsRead More in the nation and it is the gun violence murder capital of the United States! They had another blood bath there last weekend. There are over 300 million guns (not including police and military) in our country. What are you going to do, Doctor? Ban them all. By doing so the law abiding citizen would turn their guns in and the criminals would keep theirs, thereby setting the good citizens up for slaughter. You need to think through your crusade before you spend a million buck on a futile mission. We are a nation of guns. We always have been, Doctor. You won't change that. The barn door is open and all the horses already ran away!

I think KKK are unloved morons but come on, why is the media so shy to tell us about black andRead More Hispanic hate groups (ganmgs dude, gangs) that killed a lot more in a year than the KKK in 40 years, ei? Again, KKK is a great way of becoming insane quick as hate drives one insane but it is the media telling us how melting pot is bad...nope, it is not, becoming freaking americans first then blacks and Hispanics and there will be no-more kkk except in prisons. Today when the media doesn't tell you the race of the suspect you just know it's black and if they mention "rights" or" pastor phlegger"when reporting about an Hispanic suspect you know the guy is an illegal so duh, kkk is refusing to join the cartoons...so make fun of them all you want...if the media and society doesn't start hanging the bastards regardless of the race we will all end up joining kkk and that's sad. I say hang the suspects first and look at his race second not the other way around. It is not kkk we need to fear, it is the media and their insane mission to make us believe we are all equal. We are not: some are lazy, some are ugly, some are dumb, some are violent and some deserve not one but 3 or four executions...we are not equal, even Lenin figured that out (and died quickly after "seeing the light") so stop sugarcoating anything black ort Hispanic related and demonizing anything white. It is not about race but it could be...and we wouldn't want that now, would we?

Actually this is usually a sign of gestational diabetes. But not always....Alison and Erin. AndRead More BIGBAKER I've heard of bigger babies being born at home years ago too but that gets into the whole accuracy of the way they were weighed. My daughter weighed 9lb 1oz. I'm average size. My birth weight was around 7 pounds. My husband was a premie and weighed about 5 pounds. But he was a big man. Not huge. He was 6ft 1in and weighed about 190 at his heaviest. I'm 5' 3" and weighed 165 at full term. Sometimes the size of the baby is determined by ancestors long dead! My son weighed 7lb 12oz and he was born 4 weeks premature! Imagine where he was headed! The problem is that just like hospitals people use these services for non emergencies. They useRead More emergency rooms for colds and such, because they know that they can't be denied for any reason. For example no health insurance or a drug addict. I don't know the solution, but something has to be done. I remember one time I was so sick and the wait time at Kaiser ER was 7 hours so I thought the next time I got that sick I would call an ambulance and I wouldn't have to wait. Well I had a minor heart attack and guess what I still waited. There are just too many people here that don't belong and they need to leave or start paying taxes so we can build more hospitals. Quite a few level 1 trauma centers went bankrupt because of all the uninsured illegals.

It's called "Obama Care". The ER is getting over crowded due to non emergency usage ofRead More "Coughs and colds." The number of lic. inpatient beds have been reduced through the government. A lot of MD's are not providers on the "Obamacare" and also many MD's are not taking any new "Medicare patients" due to the low reimbursement rate on medicace policies.
lorrie mcvicker April 24, 2014 at 06:37 pm
Maybe we should have a clinic in every emergency room to cover the non emergency patients. Oh waitRead More that might solve the problem and why would the government want to do that. I don't disagree with you that we're becoming less and less a free country but it's wrong to blameRead More democrats alone. It wasn't dems alone that passed the patriot act. It hasn't been dems alone that have been re-uping it since it was passed the first time. On how bad Hillary will be as a president. Every president is bad in some ways. Reagan raised taxes more than a dozen times. Bush took us to war on two fronts with no way to pay for it. Clinton signed DOMA and DADT. Obama gave away the farm in order to get the Affordable Care Act passed. Papa Bush said that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans. Sure Hillary will be a bad president in some ways.... they are all bad in some way. I can tell you this much though, any president is going to be a worse president when the publicly stated goal of the opposition is to obstruct that president at any and all opportunities. The dems did it to Bush. The republican'ts are doing it to Obama. It's like Palestine and Israel, they'll fight to the death out of spite and habit, neither one of them knowing which one threw the first punch and not caring because winning is the only goal. What America needs are citizens that go into government for the good of the country instead of the good of their party.

@ eddie, I wouldn't mention any specific phone-calling service in case any other arseholes areRead More looking for tips. But for better or worse, those calls are traceable. They have "add-ons" that can fool your friends, but certainly not the NSA. BTW, that phone service was bought by Microsoft a couple of years ago- so much for any illusion of confidentiality. By using it, you "opt in" to give up your privacy, just like with G-mail. Using a computer to make a prank call is a dumb move in itself. Any computer transmits a wealth of information. Non-smart phones are a lot less traceable than anything else. Have you ever seen how many items advertisers and other web sites use to uniquely identify your computer? They can't tell your name but track your unique computer. It's called "computer fingerprinting." As soon as you give your name at a web site they track, they've got you. Check this site sometime to see how unique your computer is-- https://panopticlick.eff.org/ .... I suspect that nobody's putting much effort into tracing this call, because in the big scheme of things, they've got more serious things to deal with. (Unfortunately, unlike our local PDs.) Shame this idiot got so much publicity from his crime. I think the glorifying news "perp walk" should be stopped in virtually all cases.

Naw didn't think so. Just another way gov't will fleece the public by adding another tier of bureaucracy that will take years to evolve where they'll once again tell you and me they're still earning from their mistakes. DCFS- the Department of Children and Family Services. The department has lots of issues- but at theRead More same time there are a lot of hard workers who care deeply about what they do. The department administration needs to better support the workers so they CAN do their jobs. The challenge lies in changing the way the department is run- more case workers will help immensely- that will be implemented by Fall. But the case workers need to be trained in organizational skills (filing etc.- sounds mundane but critical when you do not want children to get lost in the shuffle).

I believe it is time for action, not further study. It is time for respect, not dismissiveness.Read More The Commission unanimously concluded that a "State of Emergency" exists in the current child protection system. Reform will only take as long or as little time as 3 votes on the Board of Supervisors decide it will take. If elected to serve the 3rd District, I will implement the recommendations made by the Blue Ribbon task force, and not ask for yet another study. The report uncovers the fact that 4 months have transpired since the Commission issued its interim recommendation which everyone agreed was both urgent and able to be implemented with current resources - - - the recommendation that medical screening exams should be performed on detained children under the age of one. (see p. 12) How could the Board fail to act at least on this one simple recommendation? LA County Supervisors can use their discretionary funds to implement the hiring of a Child Welfare Chief/Czar before more innocent children become the next victims. LA County voters will be given the opportunity to vote for 2 new Supervisors in the June primary and in November this year. I hope and pray that the newly elected Supervisors will make protecting children a priority.

Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

For CT the Common Core is common sense. For over 30 years student achievement has been on theRead More decline. Over time this has adversely affected the urban neighborhood, the middle class, businesses, and the economy. How do we know the CC standards will lead to a better education than the standards that led to our decline? The CC are rigorous standards in reading and math designed to up student achievement in order for our kids to be prepared for career and/or college. This is what sets them apart from the past standards. Why should anyone apologize, feel bad, or over explain what needs to be done because the CC is being misconceived for whatever reason? We are not NY or MASS or a handful of other states that already have solid state education standards in place. And this is not the time to revert to the old standards that got us into this mess. Those are the choices. But this is the good news I have experienced this week in the urban school that I volunteer in 3 days a week using CC standards. Students in 2nd grade are reading chapter books about animals, writing sentences, illustrating a part of the story with their artwork and noting new vocabulary words in their handmade books. Most of all I notice a sense of purpose, that this is important from the students themselves. In a 4th grade class students were doing long division problem. In the science classroom 5th grade students were studying the water cycle and writing a report about it. Teachers are embracing the greater challenge of using standards that challenge their students and students are embracing the challenge.

Garcetti's big plans for the future of LA do not preclude raping it's citizens to get there. RapingRead More communities with his massive controversial (i.e. Millennium on Vine) developer funder's TOD developments. Using transit expansion as justification for turning our city over to developer's massive projects, giving them carte blanche to do what they want. Keeping unqualified Villaraigosa appointed head of planning, LoGrande, to continue efforts to disband all zoning laws and codes to make it even easier for developer/community rapists to build what they want, where they want. And charging it's citizens mightily to make up for his failures as president of city council, for years voting to support unions that turned their backs on him and supported Wendy Greuel (and he buried her with their betrayal), and trying to make up for the deficit he played no small part in, now charging the citizens of LA for his ineptness, with potential tax increases. Please read Jack Humphreville's brilliant analysis. http://citywatchla.com/lead-stories-hidden/6776-silly-season-at-city-hall "But what we will not hear is that this billion dollar budget deficit was caused by the fiscally irresponsible City Council who agreed to massive increases in salaries, pensions, and benefits that outstripped the growth in revenues by $500 to $700 million a year. This deficit was financed on the backs of Angelenos by cutting back on the repair and maintenance of our already potholed streets and cracked sidewalks. We will also hear the drum beat for the half cent increase in our sales tax to 9½% to fund the repair our streets and sidewalks. But what we will not hear is that there are viable alternatives to fund the repair of our streets and sidewalks without the need to increase our sales tax to a job killing 9½%, one of the highest in the nation. NOR WILL WE HEAR THAT *MOVE LA, A POLITICALLY POWERFUL TRANSPORTATION ADVOCATE WANTS TO INCREASE OUR SALES TAX BY ANOTHER HALF A CENT, RESULTING IN A SALES TAX OF 10%, THE HIGHEST IN THE NATION Nor will we hear about ending hundreds of millions in giveaways to well-connected real estate developers in DTLA...." * MoveLA not only will enable the rape of our communities with massive TOD's (which cause more traffic),but also wants more tax money out of Angelenos for Garcetti's expanded public transit plan and continued sale of our city to his developer buddies.. Enough is enough!

The City deciding to end the red light enforcement came about behind the scenes in a little knownRead More way. The City Council discovered to their dismay that the Judges and Commissioners were dismissing red light tickets and they still havn't figured out why. I received one of those tickets and noted that the picture was a generic person- not necessarily me, an it had bangs which I did not wear. The law requires that the picture be a good likeness of the driver. As a portrait artist I realised that the picture had been doctored as it probably was unclear. I researched and discovered that a company from back east was paid to handle these tickets. I telephoned them and they admitted that they hired artists to "fix" the pictures so that it would comply with the California law. Doctoring the evidence is a no no to the courts and to justice. Additionally, under the Constitution you have the right to confront your accuser. When you go to court a traffic officer who was not a witness to the "crime' is tha accuser. He has not witnessed the infraction and indeed he has not had the evidence solely in his possession. The chain has been broken when the server sent the "evidence" to Delaware- or wherever it was. The Corporate heads also told me that their artists handled the evidence and re did the "retouch" as often as they needed to to try to get it to look like your licesne photo. Boy was the chain of evidence broken. I telephoned the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division, in Los Angeles, to tell her of what was going on. She was shocked at the unconstitutionality of it and she asked me to call the head of the group that teaches the Commissioners and to let them see how clearly inconstitutional it was. She offered to speak to City Council on the matter, but said that they would have to invite her. I called Council members. They did not extend an invitation to her. The Judges and Commissioners were ordered to dismiss all cases that came via the Corporation that contracted with the City to handle red light cases, because of the unconstitutional way they were handled. To this day the City does not know why.
Ziegler April 22, 2014 at 05:28 pm
I meant to mention one more legalistic observation that I may not have made clear but is veryRead More important, that I brought to the Presiding Judge. The evidence has to be at all times in the care custody and control of the officer witness/ accuser. If the chain of evidence is broken or if the evidence has been " tampered" with, such as fixing the photos to be more clear and more like the person, it is damaged and can no longer be used as evidence.
