Bret Nighman, Neighbor

Bret Nighman is the Manager of the Studio City Farmers Market.

Ohio born but California raised, Bret grew up in a family of four boys in Santa Barbara.  At the age of 10 he began working for his mother’s catering business, and by 13 he was working in the kitchen and preparing fresh food at the La Casa De Maria Retreat Center in Montecito.

Having enjoyed a prolific acting career during his teenage years and into his twenties – performing in a variety of stage and television roles – Bret took on undergraduate studies to pursue a degree in Political Science and International Relations.   Studying in London, Japan and China, Bret later received a degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Bret worked as an Assistant to the Mayor and City Council of Santa Barbara for 4 years.  He later moved to Los Angeles and enjoyed a successful 12-year career at UCLA where he worked in Government and Community Relations, as an  Administrative Director of University Communications, and then Chief Administrative Officer of the Political Science Department for 6 years.

Making a conscious choice to radically change his life, Bret left UCLA in 2009 and began to study fitness and nutrition as preventative medicine and to promote an overall healthy lifestyle.  His passion for buying local and supporting community-based programs has led him to frequent several Southern California Farmers Markets – including our very own!
