No Batteries, No Fundraising, Just an Old Fashioned Picnic

It’s become a tradition that just before the school year starts, Valley View Elementary School has an informal picnic in North Weddington Park in Studio City.

The tiny school of 250 K-6 welcomes everyone to come and play some traditional games and get a little dirty along the way.

“It’s amazing to see how some children don’t know basic games, like three-legged races or sack races,” said school principal Susan Kim.

There are egg tosses, relay races, obstacle courses and more all planned.

You bring your own picnic and blanket and chairs to the grassy area just north of the recreation center. There are bathrooms, water fountains and shade, as well as some tables.

But, parents are expected to participate.

Again, all students of any age, from any school, are welcome, and alum from the school can come, too.

The only rules are: nothing that requires batteries, no bouncers, no mechanical devices, just old fashioned games, and fun.

The Third Annual Valley View Old-Fashioned Summer Picnic is on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. School starts on Tuesday.

The North Weddington Park is at 10844 Acama Drive in Studio City.
