View Finder: Songkran Festival at Wat Thai Temple Draws Huge Crowds

Thai New Year was celebrated with worship and devotion as well as food, music and marketplace

The Songkran Festival at Wat Thai Buddhist Temple  in North Hollywood gave L. A.'s Thai Buddhists – and anyone else who wanted to come out and enjoy – a chance to make religious supplications and to make donations in support of the monks who live and serve at Wat Thai.

Beauty queens and costumed musicians and dancers walked in procession three times 'round the temple accompanied by chants and drumming. Their rite culminated in an elegant, rhythmic circle dance before the entrance to the temple.
